So now
the real work finally begins. Not that designing, permits and finding
contractors wasn't work but when your friends ask "how's the addition
coming" you can give an answer that sounds exciting. My first word of
advice is say good bye to your lawn. If you are one of those people who
spend hours mowing, feeding, watering and weeding you can take a break.
Your lawn will be trashed. It will be driven on by all sorts of machinery.
It will be piled high with debris. It will be rained on by old bent nails
and broken asphalt shingles. Workers will leave soda cans here and there.
But fear not, it will grow back... and eventually you'll rake out all the
sharp stuff.

Oh yeah, and the driveway... it will also see
it's share of abuse. Hot temperatures and heavy equipment mean big dents and
scratches. Work trucks, delivery trucks, backhoes, cement trucks,... they all
leak some sort of oil. I don't care how new they are, you'll find the tell tale
drips of hydraulic fluid on the driveway.
But cheer up... you're finally getting started.
